Higher speed with battleship-like acceleration

Higher-pressure boilers and a finer hull offer greater speed, while added weight leaves the ship with battleship-like acceleration.

Notes

The rough estimate treats each higher-pressure boiler as about thirteen percent more capable than Tiger's boilers, giving thirty-two boilers approximately the output of thirty-six older ones. Parsons turbines and cruising units provide another expected efficiency advantage over Tiger's installation. The proposed machinery is expected to produce roughly 80,000-85,000 shaft horsepower. Higher output could require accepting greater machinery wear, as in the operation of the historical Queen Elizabeth class. Added weight is expected to affect acceleration particularly strongly. The longer, finer hull helps sustain speed, although the ship still accelerates like a battleship. Its greater size also makes it a larger target requiring armour over a longer hull. In this assessment, the resulting ship would probably be a better fit for Second World War duties than the historical class.
