Type 42 and Type 23 place their principal missiles and guns forward while machinery occupies the centre and a hangar and flight deck take the stern. Keeping magazines away from hot machinery remains useful because missile electronics also dislike heat. The Type 23 carries Sea Wolf, Harpoon, and its 4.5-inch gun ahead of the machinery, leaving only smaller weapons beside the aft aviation spaces. The resulting arrangement gives the stern to aviation without mixing the largest magazines into the machinery spaces.

Modern warships still separate weapons, machinery, and aviation
Type 42 and Type 23 warships show how forward weapons and aft helicopter facilities continue the same space-management logic.
