Runway aircraft do not become carrier aircraft by relocation

CATOBAR operations impose design requirements that ordinary runway aircraft cannot satisfy without substantial changes.

Notes

CATOBAR operation requires an aircraft designed for it, and ordinary runway suitability is insufficient. The F-35A, F-35B, and F-35C show how different operating methods produce distinct variants. Eurofighter never became a CATOBAR aircraft, so moving it to such a carrier would not make it suitable for deck operations. Carrier compatibility has to be part of the aircraft's design.
