Supermarine's inter-war identity extended well beyond the later Spitfire. Royal Navy seaplane and scout orders helped keep the company in business during the 1920s and 1930s. The Navy repeatedly worked with Supermarine, Fairey, and Blackburn as especially close aircraft suppliers. Supermarine's acquisition by Vickers tightened the relationship because Vickers already supplied ships and other equipment to the service.
