Small-warship production builds industrial depth

A sustained sloop program could train smaller shipyards and expand ASDIC and engine production before wartime demand surged.

Notes

Repeated sloop orders would have kept smaller yards building warships while increasing demand for engines, ASDIC sets, and other equipment. Matching destroyer production with sloops would roughly double annual demand for ASDIC and small-ship engines. That standing production base could then expand when emergency demand arrived. Building sloops to full warship standards would also preserve specialist construction skills and probably produce more survivable escorts than corvettes of comparable size built to merchant standards.
