Would the Gloster Sea Meteor have been a poor first carrier jet if it had been needed during the war?
Short answerIt would have been less than ideal but probably usable if necessity forced the issue.
NotesThe Sea Meteor was less than ideal for carrier operations. The Royal Navy could probably have made it function if wartime necessity demanded an immediate solution. The small number of opposing jet aircraft would have reduced the pressure to field a naval jet at once. A wartime Sea Meteor would therefore have been an expedient transitional fighter rather than the preferred basis for a mature carrier air arm.
