Are there plans for a new Royal Navy corvette based on a stretched River-class offshore patrol vessel?
Short answerNo such programme is identified, and the existing frigate and destroyer plans leave little room for one.
NotesBlack Swan sloops and stretched River-class patrol ships recur as proposals. The expected construction sequence in this March 2024 assessment centres on Type 31, an adapted Type 32, Type 26, and eventually Type 83. That leaves little room for another corvette programme. A future River batch is still considered possible, but no specific new stretched-River programme is identified.
