Moltke and Goeben repeat the offset-turret compromise

The Moltke-class ships add speed but retain 11-inch guns and the awkward offset turret arrangement inherited from Von der Tann.

Notes

Moltke and Goeben followed Von der Tann and retained the offset wing turrets. Moltke reached about 27.75 knots on trials, although that performance strained the ship, while Goeben did not reliably achieve her 25.5-knot design speed. Both ships carried 11-inch guns rather than the 12-inch weapons of British battlecruisers. Goeben later spent the war in Ottoman service, giving the class two very different operational careers. Those design choices have to be judged against Germany's intended role for its battlecruisers.
