Modernizing the Queen Elizabeth class for a common speed

A 28-knot Nelson class would give the Royal Navy a stronger reason to modernize the Queen Elizabeth class to match its battle-line speed.

Notes

The Warspite reconstruction shows that additional boilers and altered internal arrangements could support higher speed. Subdivided boiler rooms and another pair of boilers could extend that work toward 28 knots. Historically, the fleet did not have the same incentive because the R-class and the two slower Nelsons set a different tempo. In this scenario, a common 28-knot speed makes modernization of the Queen Elizabeths a fleet-level priority.
