The class combines long-range missiles, air defence, a large gun, torpedoes, and a helicopter on a comparatively short-legged hull. Russia needs these ships for cruiser work because many older surface combatants are aging, yet build times and the loss of Ukrainian gas-turbine supply undermine ambitious force plans. The later batch's planned increase from 16 to 32 strike-missile cells shows capability growing even while usable-hull production lags. Proposed larger variants remain dependent on solving propulsion and industrial problems. The long gaps between laying down, launching, and commissioning make fleet totals on paper a poor guide to the number of usable ships.

Gorshkov capability meets production limits
Admiral Gorshkov-class ships have cruiser-like weapons and duties, but slow construction and engine supply constrain the fleet they can form.
