Fire and dockyard accidents delayed Euryalus

A major dock fire and further accidents forced several yards and the Royal Navy to reconstruct Euryalus before she could enter service two years behind her sisters.

Notes

Euryalus was lying beside Ramsden Dock when a major fire spread from the wharf to the newly launched cruiser. She was badly damaged before being hauled clear and then had to be towed to Cammell Laird for repair. The ship subsequently slipped from her blocks in dry dock and collided with an auxiliary vessel during trials. Vickers, Cammell Laird, and Devonport all contributed to recovering the project. Her delayed completion in January 1904 shows both the vulnerability of a capital-intensive shipbuilding program to yard accidents and the industrial coordination needed to rescue a damaged hull.
