How does CCV relate to Type 32 and the future air-defence replacement programme?
Short answerCCV is interpreted as carrying forward Type 32's drone-command role, while a Type 83-style programme is expected to return under another designation.
NotesCCV was one of the earlier names associated with the Type 32 drone-command concept. That concept developed from a modified Type 31 and Arrowhead 140 design, with a larger Arrowhead also considered possible. Type 26 construction, including ships for Norway, is expected to occupy the yard needed for Type 83 and delay that programme. One possible political explanation for replacing the programme labels is that it distances the government from earlier plans while avoiding an explicit admission of delay. An air-defence programme could return under another number in the early 2030s. That remains a forecast about procurement and politics. CCV itself is expected to become a useful drone-command ship in a task group.
