Could mass production have supported a stronger Buffalo engine?

A counterfactual links large-scale deliveries in 1939 to more powerful engines by 1941, including the possibility of switching to a Wasp.

Notes

If Brewster had delivered large numbers of Buffaloes in 1939, continued production might have encouraged substantial engine upgrades over the following two years. The scenario envisages 1,500 or 1,800 horsepower by 1941, perhaps even 2,000. A change to a Wasp engine is also raised as a possibility. These ratings and the engine change are hypothetical outcomes of more effective production and development; Brewster's actual organization failed to sustain that progress.
