Why all-forward guns suit a modernized battleship

An all-forward main battery would leave a large capital ship's afterbody free for missiles, helicopters, sensors, and later machinery changes without sacrificing its heavy guns.

Notes

A modernized battleship would need more than armor and large guns: integrated sensors, air-defense missiles, command systems, and helicopters all demand weight and internal volume. Removing an after turret from a conventional layout would require major structural work before those systems could be fitted. An F3-, Nelson-, or Dunkerque-style all-forward battery leaves the afterbody available for a hangar, flight deck, missile installations, and future machinery changes while retaining the main armament. A purpose-built descendant could resemble a scaled-up Arleigh Burke or Type 45 destroyer with very large guns forward. This is a design extrapolation about useful layout, not a claim that any historic proposal already possessed those modern systems.
