Admiral-class hulls favor hangars, islands, and perhaps deck-edge lifts

Converting Hood's sisters avoids the difficult fast-battleship redesign and redirects their volume toward aircraft support, speed, and deck handling.

Notes

The Admiral-class conversion has different priorities from the historical effort to turn Fisher's battlecruiser concept into a better protected fast battleship. A carrier does not need heavy guns or armor for a place in the battle line; it needs speed, maneuverability, hangar volume, and aircraft support facilities. Experience with earlier purpose-built ships would encourage a conventional island and funnel trunking instead of an awkward flush deck. British designers were also discussing deck-edge lifts, and a fleet without the historical losses that pushed them toward centerline lifts might experiment with them sooner. Three such hulls could provide exceptional hangar and flight-deck capacity for the period.
