Yamato's protection and secondary battery

A Yamato-inspired design review brings together 6.1-inch secondary turrets, 5-inch dual-purpose guns, heavy protection, and long-range gunnery.

Notes

The video uses Yamato as a case study in the scale of late battleship design. The simulation reconstructs four triple 6.1-inch secondary turrets, twin five-inch dual-purpose guns, 25 mm anti-aircraft weapons, and the historical absence of torpedo tubes. It uses 26-inch turret protection, a 16-inch belt, an eight-inch deck, and a top speed of 27 knots to represent the design's exceptional scale. The main battery is also corrected from the game's 51-calibre setting toward the historical 45-calibre 18-inch weapon before its range and rate of fire are compared with the fictional British opponent. Very large capital ships depended on protection, secondary weapons, fire control, speed, and tactical employment as well as main-gun calibre.
