The Type 45 places its principal weapons forward and aircraft facilities aft. Its missiles can climb and turn after launch, so their deck position does not impose the fixed firing arcs of battleship guns. Kirov supplies a larger example, with a dense forward missile battery, a central nuclear plant, and a gun aft. A missile battery can therefore remain concentrated without inheriting the same stern blind arc as an all-forward gun battery.

Type 45 and Kirov make forward concentration a missile-age norm
Type 45 and Kirov concentrate major missile systems forward while propulsion and aviation occupy the centre and stern, without inheriting a gun battery's blind arc.
