Would removing Nelson's torpedo-defense spaces save weight?

Replacing large torpedo-defense spaces with bulkheads would consume some weight, but tighter subdivision could reduce dangerous flood volume and free space for other uses.

Question

Would eliminating Nelson's torpedo-defense system really save much weight once replacement bulkheads were installed?

Short answer

Only partly, but smaller, better-subdivided spaces could limit flooding and make the internal volume more useful.

Notes

New anti-torpedo bulkheads would offset part of the apparent weight saving. The gain would come less from removing structure outright than from breaking large voids into smaller compartments that were harder to flood catastrophically. Avoiding one very large floodable space could be more valuable than the headline tonnage figure suggests. The redesigned volume could also support other ship functions, so survivability and internal utility matter alongside raw weight.
