Why the estimate rounds up to 30,000 tons

Repeated weight estimates produce figures below 30,000 tons, with an added margin for potentially missed items.

Notes

The proposed standard displacement is rounded to 30,000 tons. That is about 1,500 tons above Tiger, 2,500 above historical Queen Elizabeth and 5,000 above Iron Duke. Repeated calculations using published weight figures produce estimates from about 29,000 to 29,500 tons. An allowance of roughly 500 tons is added because some weight might have been missed. The result is a cautious estimate rather than an exact design total. It remains well below the approximately 42,000-ton Hood comparison and is considered within British construction capacity.
