The unresolved design of the proposed sixth Queen Elizabeth

The unbuilt Agincourt raises competing possibilities: a distinctive six-gun fast battleship or another ship of the common class design.

Notes

The unbuilt sixth Queen Elizabeth, Agincourt, has an uncertain design history. One reconstruction envisages six 18-inch guns in three twin turrets, drawing on an 18-inch gun programme already under development and work on twin mountings. Three larger turrets might release space for extra boilers compared with a four-turret ship, while higher boiler pressure could support an estimated 27-28 knots. The precise design remains unresolved in this reconstruction, with research into the design continuing. In the Tiger-based scenario, the five other ships would already be fast battleships. Agincourt might therefore be completed to their common design without the separate 18-inch armament, giving the fleet a sixth ship.
