The unknown 1923 capital-ship generation

The closing problem asks how German technical lessons would shape the capital ships ordered after the familiar G3, N3, Lexington, and South Dakota programs.

Notes

The first postwar programs are relatively predictable because their historical designs already existed. The harder question is what Britain, America, Japan, France, and Italy order around 1923 after studying their German prizes and watching rivals respond. Those third-generation designs would embody lessons that no historical Washington-era ship combined in quite the same way. They would become the benchmarks around which a 1925-26 limitation treaty was negotiated.
