Supermarine's Royal Navy amphibian line

The opening explains how Royal Navy amphibian work sustained Supermarine and produced a distinctive family of shipborne patrol aircraft.

Notes

Supermarine is usually associated with the Spitfire and its racing aircraft, yet the Royal Navy relationship kept the company going. After Vickers acquired Supermarine, the firm became a specialist design house for naval seaplanes and floatplanes. The Seagull and Walrus appeared on cruisers, battleships, and battlecruisers for years, making this design lineage a familiar part of British fleet aviation. Their flying-boat shape also shows that the Royal Navy wanted something closer to a compact maritime patrol aircraft than a conventional short-range scout. The opening establishes the industrial relationship and doctrinal requirement behind the rest of the video.
