Italian-built Tashkent: speed and endurance from an integrated design

Tashkent's machinery and construction provide the favourable comparison: 42.7 knots and a quoted 5,000 nautical miles at 20 knots.

Notes

Tashkent was the only completed ship of the intended class and was built at Livorno in Italy. Its machinery combined British Yarrow boilers operating at roughly 400 psi with fully balanced Italian-built turbines inspired by Parsons designs. Achieved speed is given as 42.7 knots. Endurance is put at 5,000 nautical miles at 20 knots. Those results supported its usefulness in service. The single completed ship provides the favourable example of following an integrated design.
