A ninth British Type 26 could bridge the gap to Type 83

A possible ninth British frigate could exploit Norwegian-order savings and keep Glasgow's skilled workforce employed into Type 83.

Notes

One proposed production sequence puts a displaced British Type 26 into a third batch with the remaining four Norwegian ships. The longer run could reduce costs enough to make a ninth British frigate particularly attractive. Adding that extra ship at the end would bring Glasgow's Type 26 output to 14. This is a hoped-for purchase, with an expressed preference for still more British ships, rather than an announced order. The industrial benefit would be continuous work into Type 83, keeping skilled staff and their knowledge in use without paying merely to sustain idle capacity.
