Why an army 155 mm gun is not a naval gun

Land and sea artillery share caliber labels but differ sharply in barrel, ammunition, mounting, automation, and support-system constraints.

Question

Could a future combatant use a navalized army-compatible 155 mm gun?

Short answer

It is unlikely to be efficient because land-gun packaging gives up the deeper mount, longer system, and automated support a ship can accommodate.

Notes

A vehicle gun must fit strict weight and volume limits, while a naval mounting can extend through multiple decks into magazines and handling rooms. Ships can support longer barrels, larger rounds, and extensive automated loading machinery. A land gun transplanted to a deck carries the compromises imposed by its original compact platform without using the volume available below. Simply navalizing an army-compatible 155 mm weapon would therefore sacrifice much of the range, rate of fire, and ammunition-handling potential of a purpose-built naval system.
