Could Britain actually build the N3 and G3 designs?

The projected N3 and G3 capital ships built on British gun, turret, and shipbuilding experience. Their specifications posed a difficult integration project rather than an impossible technological leap.

Notes

The N3’s nine 18-inch guns in triple turrets posed an integration problem rather than a fantasy design. British firms had experience with scalable triple-turret concepts and 15-inch weapons, while HMS Furious reflected an existing 18-inch development lineage. The proposed ships would combine this prewar and wartime work in a much larger package. Construction would still be demanding, but a roughly two-and-a-half- to three-year cycle matched the timeframe of large contemporary battleships. The design carried real technical risk without exceeding Britain’s industrial abilities.
