Can ships be built side by side in the same dry dock?
Short answerYes, if the ships and the working clearances fit; several small First World War monitors were built together in one dock.
NotesMore than one ship can be built side by side in a dry dock. The practical limit is whether their combined beam, staging, and working space fit inside the dock. First World War M15-class monitors or gunboats were photographed four or five abreast during construction. The arrangement lets a yard use a large dock efficiently for vessels much smaller than the capital ships the dock was designed to hold.
