Torpedo water-entry control for fast monoplanes

The Swordfish-style tension wire is compared with a breakaway parachute for faster metal monoplanes.

Question

How could a tension-wire torpedo system be adapted to an all-metal monoplane such as an Avenger or Kate?

Short answer

A breakaway parachute is more practical: it controls water entry without the dangerous drag of a tension wire behind a fast aircraft.

Notes

A tension wire risks dragging or destabilizing the torpedo behind a faster aircraft, and trials associated with the Barracuda did not make the system attractive. A parachute can slow and control entry if it deploys immediately after release and detaches on hitting the water so it does not foul the weapon.
