The H class tried a bridge form that became standard from the I class onward. The L class needed it reshaped to clear larger, higher gun mountings and account for the airflow. Two quadruple launchers provided eight torpedo tubes. The Mark XX mounting raised maximum gun elevation to 50 degrees from about 40 on earlier types. The estimate of 70 degrees applies to a hypothetical larger hull and mounting, still short of the US 5-inch/38's elevation in the comparison.

The new 4.7-inch mounting improved gun elevation and required changes to the standard destroyer bridge.
