A hypothetical Königsberg conversion would use the light cruiser's length for a flight deck while accepting a limited aircraft-support role. Removing the triple turrets and superstructure, moving the funnels to one side, and adding substantial bulges would provide a basis for the rebuild, at some cost in speed. The proposed arrangement puts spare parts forward, aircraft in the wider central section, and workshops in the narrow stern. That separation would require moving parts along much of the ship for major repairs. The estimate is roughly a dozen aircraft with folded wings or a couple of dozen dismantled and crated, with a flight deck just long enough for meaningful operations. Seaplane handling would add another useful role, but supporting Graf Zeppelin would still leave the German force with inadequate escorts.

Converting a Königsberg into an aircraft-maintenance ship
A proposed Königsberg rebuild divides the hull between stores, aircraft, and workshops, with substantial stability work and modest aircraft capacity.
