Why was HMS Bristol completed when the rest of the Type 82 class was canceled?
Short answerBristol was already far enough into construction that canceling her would save little, while canceling the unstarted follow-on ships still reduced expenditure.
NotesThe remaining Type 82 ships were canceled to save money, but Bristol was already well under construction. Stopping her at that stage would not have recovered much expenditure. The case illustrates the difference between avoiding future construction costs and discarding a hull whose major costs have already been incurred.
