The Duiker marks Hawker's first aircraft design

Before the successful Woodcock, Hawker produced the swept-wing Duiker for a high-speed reconnaissance requirement but failed to secure an order.

Notes

Hawker's first aircraft was the Duiker rather than the more successful Woodcock that followed it. The company proposed it as a high-speed reconnaissance machine and gave it visibly swept wings, a feature clear in the surviving plan shown at this point. The design failed to win approval and never became the production order the new firm needed. The Duiker marks Hawker's first attempt under its new name before the Woodcock created financial breathing space.
