Design growth outruns German yard capacity

The design sequence in German Warships 1815-1945 grows from the Deutschland class to an H-44 that no German yard could build in 1941-42.

Notes

A comparison assembled from German Warships 1815-1945 traces each step from the Deutschland class through Scharnhorst and Bismarck into the much larger H studies. Size, armament, and complexity grow together, while the industrial means to build them fall behind. American Tillman studies and British Incomparable at least had possible yards behind them. Germany's surviving yards, weakened after Versailles and starved of priority funding, could not construct a 131,000-ton H-44 during the war. Naval expansion ranked behind the army, Luftwaffe, internal-security apparatus, and major land infrastructure, so the drawing did not show that the state had funded the means of construction.
