Why fixing the G3 turret layout is difficult

Moving the G3's restricted turret after construction begins would cascade through magazines, armour, funnels, machinery, and weight distribution.

Question

Could the G3's awkward turret be moved before completion?

Short answer

Only with a major redesign; a Nelson-like layout was possible in theory, but the change would disrupt the ship's entire internal arrangement and balance.

Notes

A Nelson-like all-forward arrangement could improve the criticized gun arcs. Moving the superstructure aft might help, but it would also make the design very bow-heavy. Once construction starts, turret and magazine positions are tied to armour, machinery, funnels, and hull structure. Even without treaty restrictions, the Suez Canal and available dry docks still bounded the scale of any replacement arrangement. The G3 therefore had real potential but could not be repaired by sliding one component on a plan.
