The planned G3 battery divides targets among distinct weapon tiers. Nine 16-inch guns answer capital ships, twelve six-inch guns cover cruisers and destroyers, and six single 4.7-inch mounts can engage aircraft or motor torpedo boats. Four proposed ten-barrel two-pounder mountings would provide forty close-range anti-aircraft barrels, while two 24.5-inch torpedo tubes add a heavy underwater weapon. Each weapon tier requires its own ammunition supply but has a defined threat set. The 4.7-inch gun also became a common interwar Royal Navy destroyer weapon, while the six-inch gun was the standard cruiser calibre discussed here.
