The second British programme cancels the smaller Furious path and treats four lightly started G3 battlecruisers as treaty conversions. Long-lead items had already been ordered, so the ships could enter service relatively quickly despite little hull structure having been completed. Four roughly 30,000-ton conversions would reduce the total number of carriers but give the Royal Navy a persistent core of strike carriers alongside later 27,500-ton fleet carriers. The replacement timetable reaches a 1942 peak that would require careful retirement timing to remain within the tonnage ceiling.
