Fairfield's long shipbuilding lineage

The Forward class came from Fairfield, a yard whose long output connected early scout cruisers to later Royal Navy warships.

Notes

Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company operated from 1834 to 1968. After later corporate changes, its yard became part of BAE Systems Surface Ships and continued building Royal Navy warships, including the Type 26 frigates under construction at the time of the lecture. The same site had produced battlecruisers, cruisers, carriers, submarines, passenger ships, and icebreakers. Its naval output included ships such as New Zealand, Renown, Valiant, Howe, Implacable, and Theseus. That continuity places the small scout-cruiser contract inside a much wider maritime industrial base.
