Scaling 1932 diesels into an earlier three-shaft destroyer

Using Bremse's smaller engines and Z51's shaft layout, an early-1930s German diesel destroyer might approach 35 knots while retaining long range.

Notes

The estimate uses German hardware from different maturity points rather than assuming Z51's 1940s engines appear a decade early. It places eight or nine Bremse-scale diesels across three geared shafts, with the centre plant providing high-speed power. Roughly 64,000 horsepower might cost a 1934 destroyer one knot, perhaps two, compared with steam. If its endurance approached the later design's 5,500 nautical miles, that modest speed penalty would buy an escort radius more than twice that of historical German destroyers.
