Four gas turbines could feed two shafts through gearboxes, with each early unit producing roughly 11,000-15,000 shaft horsepower. The arrangement could produce a very fast destroyer while removing steam piping and boiler rooms. Smaller machinery spaces could be separated around the gearing, improving subdivision and reducing the area vulnerable to one hit. The assumed turbine performance stays within plausible mid-1930s metallurgical limits, and the resulting stability changes remain design problems that require real solutions.

Gas turbines reshape destroyer power and machinery layout
A Tribal-class-sized destroyer illustrates how several modest turbines could replace steam machinery and raise available shaft horsepower.
