The lighter and less voluminous plant could encourage the Admiralty to modernize ships in pairs rather than almost one at a time. Renown, Repulse, and additional Queen Elizabeth-class ships might receive new machinery, altered subdivision, and more room for protection or other improvements. A gas-turbine Renown reconstruction could save substantially more than the 2,800 tons released by her historical machinery refit, though the extreme speed estimates remain doubtful. Fuel storage and procurement would also expand, while Repulse remains a likelier early candidate than the more expensive Hood because she could become a fast carrier escort at lower reconstruction cost.

Queen Elizabeth-class battleships and the battlecruisers Renown and Repulse become candidates for deeper, faster machinery reconstructions.
