The industrial cost of Canadian Queen Elizabeth-class ships

Canadian capital ships depended on dry docks, building slips, port reconstruction, workforce, and the budget to sustain them.

Question

Would building several Queen Elizabeth-class battleships for Canada have been better than the historical British capital-ship program?

Short answer

They could strengthen imperial defence, but Canada would need major port and industrial investment. Earlier Iron Duke and Tiger orders could not simply be replaced, and a larger Queen Elizabeth programme would alter later construction choices.

Notes

Canadian Queen Elizabeth-class ships would require extensive investment in ports and industry, including dry docks and construction facilities at Halifax. The proposal therefore involved much more than purchasing additional hulls. Standardization could bring benefits, but Iron Duke and Tiger belonged to earlier orders. Two Renowns emerged from the cancellation of three Revenge-class ships, while Hood belonged to a later programme. An enlarged Queen Elizabeth fleet could change those later decisions, so adding every historical class to it does not provide a consistent alternative programme.
