Why a larger Type 83 hull need not drive the whole ship's cost

The Type 83 discussion connects hull volume with command of uncrewed systems, maintenance access, later upgrades, and the cost of fitted equipment.

Notes

A fleet containing large numbers of uncrewed aircraft and vessels still needs somewhere to command them, which raises a practical objection to minimizing the Type 83's size. Extra hull volume can also make maintenance easier and leave room for later changes. The discussion argues that these advantages can save money over a ship's service life. Unlike the comparison with a larger car, much of a modern warship's expense comes from the systems fitted inside it. Hull size therefore needs to be judged against the capability and access it provides, alongside its initial construction cost.
