Why containerized Q-ships are hard to conceal

Containerized weapons are tested against the mundane systems that keep a merchant ship stable, powered, scheduled, and commercially credible.

Question

Are disguised container ships packed with missile or drone launchers a terrifying new form of Q-ship?

Short answer

They can create a short-term operational surprise, but power, data, maintenance, cargo routing, weight, stability, crew secrecy, and container handling make a persistent covert force difficult to hide and sustain.

Notes

Refrigerated container ships already possess useful electrical and data capacity, but their scarcity and commercial demand make unusual employment conspicuous. Ordinary container ships follow regular routes, while weapon containers need controlled placement, power, communications, maintenance, and accurate declared weights for stability. Crew knowledge and social media make secrecy harder, and launch positions near the stack edge are also the containers most exposed to loss in heavy weather. Covert conversion could work as a temporary wartime expedient, but it would not create an invisible standing fleet.
