Dragon would retain one six-inch turret and ask BAE what further use could be made of it. The old three-inch mountings would be replaced with OTO Melara 76 mm Super Rapid guns if they could be fitted, with four mountings proposed for all-round coverage. Removing the aft six-inch turret would create room for a proper helicopter hangar. The aviation conversion needs facilities to service and refuel modern helicopters. Replacing the old machinery with gas turbines remains debatable because the existing plant is still considered effective for its age. Unlimited funding strengthens the case for replacement, while a normal budget would make that decision harder to justify.
