Question

Was there a British version of Billy Mitchell?

Short answer

There was no exact counterpart. Hugh Trenchard was comparable as an air-power theorist, but Mitchell's personal flying and activism made the comparison less direct.

Notes

Hugh Trenchard is the clearest British comparison for Mitchell's commitment to air-power theory. The comparison is narrower when it comes to Mitchell's habit of flying personally and courting publicity. A second British theorist is mentioned, but the captions do not establish the name clearly. The resemblance in ideas does not establish an exact British counterpart.
