Bellerophon went to Portsmouth, Temeraire to Devonport, and Superb to Armstrong Whitworth at Elswick. Distributing orders helped yards master the larger hulls, turbines, boilers, and new production methods required by dreadnoughts. Britain's broad industrial base was an advantage, but only if old facilities and workforces were deliberately modernized. Additional public and private yards remained available, showing how much unused capacity Britain possessed during the early program cuts.
