Around 1919, the Royal Navy considered how shells would be moved aboard still larger battleships. A light railway was one proposed answer if those ships required 22-inch guns. The small railway concept could assist loading, unloading and movement within the ship. This was a proposal for a possible future design, with the need conditional on that increase in gun size.
