Project B exposed the Air Service's industrial limits

The 125-aircraft Project B force depended heavily on British and Italian types, revealing the immature American military-aircraft base behind Mitchell's claims.

Notes

Many of the fighters and bombers assembled at Langley Field were British or Italian designs rather than American aircraft. Concentrating 125 aircraft and roughly a thousand personnel for the exercise demonstrated considerable organizational effort. It also exposed how limited the contemporary Army Air Service's domestic equipment base remained. The Navy's stronger push toward American construction adds an industrial dimension to the doctrinal dispute. Mitchell's air-power proposals can therefore be judged against the force actually available to execute them.
