Yak-38 thrust, payload and range

The Yak-38 produced roughly 29,400 pounds of hover thrust and weighed a little over seven tons empty. The figures given are 7,385 kg empty and up to 11,300 kg at takeoff, leaving just under four tons for pilot, fuel, and ordnance. Its weapons load could reach 4,400 pounds, roughly two tons. The quoted range was 810 miles, or 700 nautical miles. Drop tanks offered additional reach at the cost of weapons carriage. The aircraft could carry anti-ship missiles, giving its limited payload a useful role against surface targets.
