The central advantage is endurance: refuelling is measured in years rather than in miles sailed. Eliminating large fuel stores, exhaust stacks, and their associated arrangements can simplify a ship's design. A reactor can also provide sustained power for speed, radar, and other demanding systems. That electrical margin could support power-hungry weapons such as lasers, whose practicality may depend on generating energy onboard instead of storing it.

Why a navy would choose nuclear propulsion
Nuclear propulsion trades fuel bunkers and short endurance for years between refuelling and abundant power for speed, sensors, and future weapons.
